This week we're reviewing Netflix's latest hit show, Emily in Paris. As a French major and a one time Francophile, Ekta was severely disappointed by this show. As a lover of good TV, Sidra was also severely disappointed by this show.

Premise:

Emily works in advertising and on a whim ends up taking a one year job in Paris working for an advertising firm her company just acquired after her boss becomes pregnant. The plot was beyond ridiculous even when compared to shows like Gossip Girl and Sex in the City.

Review:

Ekta- Paris, clothes and the parade of cute men got me on board. The fashion definitely reminded me of Sex in the City and Emily's business idea for a custom scent in a hotel was actually good. However, the "terrible boss", the ridiculous social media rise to fame, and nonsense plot holes definitely make this show fall in the bad category. The show's only saving grace is the cute chef and the awesome crop top Emily wore when running. I did watch the whole season but it was only on in the background and it took me a day to finish it. I'd probably watch the second season but only if I couldn't find anything else to watch. 5/10

Sidra- I cannot express how much I hate Emily, this show, and possibly all Americans tourists in France after watching this show. I might be biased, but I have no idea why Emily would leave the greatest city in the world (Chicago) for Paris when she 1) doesn't speak French, 2) doesn't have any understanding for French culture, and 3) doesn't want to learn anything! The amount of times I said "I hate Emily" during the first two episodes easily hit double digits. This show is just a wannabe Devil Wears Prada that didn't understand you're supposed to like Emily. At least the fashion is good. 3/10
